Major crack closes new Indian bridge
A new bridge in Chillaghat in Uttar Pradesh in India has been closed to traffic following the appearance of a crack reported to be about 200mm wide and 1.5m long. The bridge over the Yamuna River is just over 1km long and its opening on 18 November had reduced travel distances by more than 40km.
An inquiry is now being carried out by a three-member committee and its initial report is due to be produced within a matter of days.
