The linkspan arrived on the crane barge Mammoet Amsterdam ready for installation by heavy-lifting specialist Mammoet.

Main contractor Graham Construction’s scope of work includes designing and building a new 250m-long approach span jetty, a 195m-long finger pier jetty and an 80m by 30m floating pontoon, as well as the 70m linkspan bridge to connect the pontoon and approach jetty. “The installation of this landmark structure marks a significant milestone in the delivery of the project,” said Graham Construction project manager Gareth McLaverty.

The reinforced concrete pontoon, which is currently under construction on the River Tyne, will be towed to site and delivered in April.

The first vessels are expected to berth at the new terminal in the first half of this year.
