Italy's record-breating suspension bridge across the Strait of Messina will be completed by 2016, two key government ministers said in a statement on Friday.
The statement came from the minister for economy Giulio Tremonti and infrastructure Minister Altero Matteoli. Prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has said that construction may start this year.
Impreglio heads a consortium that was chosen in 2005 to build the bridge and associated links. The project was then postponed by politicians in 2006 in favour of prioritising other schemes.
The crossing's 3.3km main span will be the world's longest.
