A challenge is to carry out the work while causing as little disruption as possible for road and railway traffic.
NCC has come up with a method that will keep two separate bridges in use throughout the majority of the construction period, each with three lanes.
NCC’s method involves constructing the new eastern bridge in a temporary location and using it as a detour during the construction period. After this, the existing western bridge will be demolished and replaced by a new one. The existing eastern bridge will also be demolished and the new eastern bridge will be pushed into its permanent position.
”We have chosen a solution that provides more uniform traffic rhythm, less exhaust fumes and noise since the risk for queues will decrease,” said NCC Construction’s regional business manager Sören Backlund.
The order value is approximately US$50.8 million and construction is scheduled to commence this month for completion in spring 2014.
