The potential projects include the construction of nine new bridges over the Chao Phraya River with the aim of  relieving congestion on existing bridges and improving connectivity between inner Bangkok and the Thon Buri side. The initial work plan envisages the new bridges being built during the period from 2017 to 2021.

Deputy transport minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said that the ministry has tasked the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy & Planning and other agencies to complete their strategies for the alleviation of traffic gridlock in Bangkok as well as six other provinces. Upon completion, the strategies will be studied by the Commission for the Management of Road Traffic.
