The governor of the US state of North Carolina Bev Perdue has announced that she will be seeking grant funding to enable construction of the US$300 million replacement of the Yadkin River Bridge.
Replacing the narrow bridge is regarded as a priority in the state.
Discretionary grants of between US$20 million and US$300 will be awarded to transport projects on a competitive basis under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act signed this week.
North Carolina has already been awarded US$735 million for highway and bridge projects under the recovery plan.
