The bridge’s main span can be raised vertically by up to 53m to allow the passage of shipping.

The US$209 million bridge has a total length of 433m, of which 117m is for the lifting span. It takes 11 minutes to raise or lower the span, which is expected to be moved 60 times a year. The four supporting pylons stand 77m above high water level.

The team responsible for its development was made up of GTM Sud Ouest, GTM Sud, Vinci Construction Grands Projets, Cimolai, Egis-Jean Muller International, Lavigne et Chéron Architectes, Michel Virlogeux and Hardesty & Hanover. Client for the scheme is the Communauté urbaine de Bordeaux.
