The Canadian city of Ottawa's transportation department is asking the council to allocate US$947,000 of funding so that it can explore the feasibility of building two pedestrian bridges, one over the Rideau Canal and the other over the Rideau River.
The transportation department says that, in addition to providing a pedestrian link between communities, the bridges would help serve the cycling needs of both local residents and those beyond the neighbourhoods.
The city's finance committee will consider the funding request next week.
