Construction of the Sta Rita Bridge and its approaches is in full swing in line with a policy of fast-track implementation of high-impact projects, said the DPWH. The US$448,000 project consists of the construction of a 297.8m, 10-span bridge of prestressed construction supported on bored pile foundations. It is being built by Christian Ian Construction. The project is almost 60% complete, and well ahead of schdule.

The three span concrete Solana Bridge - also on the DPWH high priority list ' is due for completion this month. The bridge will provide an essential link to a major industrial plant which needs to recruit locally.

DPWH secretary Florante Soriquez has ordered a speeding up of progress on the Boni-Serrano-Katipunan Interchange. A recent report had shown several reasons for delays including the presence of squatters along the flyover's alignment. The interchange is due for completion by September.

Bridge construction is intensifying in the Cagayan Valley region, with the aim of spurring development and reducing poverty. Seven bridges are under construction. These are being implemented through the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

Rehabilitation of a vital bridge in Central Luzon is also at full swing after the project was temporarily suspended to accomodate diverted vehicular traffic. The project is one of the five bridges in the region being replaced under the Asian Development Bank-assisted Sixth Road Project.
