Politicians agree to build High Mosel Bridge
Germany's Greens and Social Democrats have this week reached agreement that a US$400 million bridge can be built across the Moselle Valley. The decision has prompted an outcry from winegrowers in the area, who hoped that the Greens would scrap the plan.
The 1.7km Hochmoselbrücke or High Moselle Bridge will emerge from a tunnel to cross the river at a maximum height of 158m. The 25,000t steel superstructure will be launched across 10 columns.
