Crews have placed all nine of the beams and have begun building the concrete bridge deck. Federal Highway emergency funding was used for the contract to replace two sections of the bridge that were damaged when a tugboat carrying several barges collided with the bridge in March.

The project was awarded to Joe McGee Construction Company, Inc. of Lake, MS for $2,061,494 on April 8. MDOT has a US$75,000 a day condition on making an April 28 completion of the repairs. If completed before that date, the contractor will be awarded that figure for each day ahead of schedule, and if the project extends past that date, then the contractor will be fined that amount per day.
