The consultations target specific groups of local people, including those within or adjactent to the candidate corridors as well as others who would be affected by a future crossing. Other aspects of the current CA£4.5 million (US$4.6 million) phase of the project include the development of an environmental assessment study, including preliminary design drawings.
The environmental assessment study is led jointly by the National Capital Commission, the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario and the Québec Ministry of Transportation, with technical support from the cities of Ottawa and Gatineau. The consultant is Roche-Genivar joint venture.
Previous consultations have confirmed the need for the future crossing. Three candidate corridors were identified by Aecom-Delcan in the previous stage of the project.
Work on the project started in December 2006.
