New York State Department of Transport (NYDOT) will use deck panels from the old Tappan Zee Bridge, which was deconstructed in 2017 in the US$4.8 million replacement of two bridges in the town of Canisteo, Steuben County.

The recycled deck panels will be set on new abutments that will replace the ageing Sugar Creek Bridge. Also involved in the programme is Bennett’s Creek Bridge, which will be replaced by a new multi-girder bridge.

The two replacement bridges will have better accommodations for cyclists and pedestrians. Both structures will include weather resistant concrete for improved resiliency against severe weather.
