Inspections revealed bearing failures on a section of the 430m-long bridge, which was built in the 1970s and links Lagos Island to the mainland.
It was determined that the bridge is no longer safe for public use.
State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said that the closure will enable detailed inspections and repairs be carried out as soon as possible.
