The 3,400t truss is being slid north to allow a detour bridge to be set up. The east end of the truss will be moved north about 10m and the west end will be moved north about 20m.

The operation will be carried out by the bridge replacement project’s construction manager/general contractor Slayden/Sundt Joint Venture and subcontractor Omega Morgan. Omega Morgan is a specialist subcontractor working for Slayden/Sundt.

The public will use the detour span from late January until the new Sellwood Bridge opens in 2015.

At the new location, the truss will be supported on five temporary steel piers. The contractor has installed the new piers at the same spacings as the existing concrete piers.
