The public-private partnership project will involve the construction, operation and maintenance of a dual-carriageway toll bridge with three lanes in each direction. It will improve links between the island city of Mombasa and the northern mainland through the Nyali region. The contracting authority for the scheme is Kenya Urban Roads Authority.

The three competing teams are:

  • Nyali Connect Consortium - made up of Meridiam Infrastructure, Vinci Highways, Vinci Concessions;
  • IHI-Join-Acciona Consortium - made up of IHI, Acciona Construccion and Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport & Urban Development (Join);
  • Strabag.

2nd Nyali Bridge

The other two teams that had responded to last year’s request for qualifications were China Communication Construction Company (CCCC) and a consortium of Mota Engil Africa, AIIM, Egis and Orascom.
