The designs represent a wide range of styles, including enclosed, arched and cable-stayed structures. The teams on the shortlist are known, but the entries were submitted under pseudonyms and so are currently anonymous.

The competition jury will select the winner during the spring.

Helsinki launched the competition in 2011. More than 50 teams applied and a shortlist was selected for the actual competition phase.

The teams – in alphabetical order – are:

  • Setec tpi, France
  • WSP Finland, Finland

If implemented, the bridge connection for trams and pedestrians and cyclists would be the longest in Finland, at approximately 3km. The connection, composed of two or more bridges, would link the future Kruunuvuorenranta district to Helsinki city centre.
