The government of Uttar Pradesh in northern India has approved the construction of a pedestrian bridge over the Gomti River that will give a new identity to its capital city Lucknow.

The 180m long Smiling Bridge will be built by the Lucknow Development Authority at a cost of US$6 million on the theme of “Smile: you’re in Lucknow”.

The design by Mumbai based Rwamp Studio was chosen through a competition. Lucknow Development Authority hopes construction will be complete in 18 months.
