The Canadian Federal Government announced the creation of a Strategic Infrastructure Foundation to which it will commit C$2 billion in new money out of year-end surpluses - if and when there are surpluses. This could kick-start new highway work. This initiative comes on top of a $2 billion infrastructure programme announced in the 2000 Federal budget.
