Support from the British government has enabled Sri Lanka to approve the construction of seven flyovers costing some US$60 million and 54 rural bridges costing US$30 million.
The flyovers range in length from 219m to 455m.
In a separate announcement, the Sri Lankan government has said that Mabey Johnson has been awarded a contract for the superstructure of 15 bridges. The contract was awarded outside of tender procedures in order to expedite construction. Local contractors will be invited to tender for work related to other elements of the construction process.
