Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has granted the Sri Lanka government a US$36m loan towards the cost of reconstructing 25 bridges.
Implementing the project will help to mitigate congestion in high-traffic corridors and reduce accidents while improving the connectivity, said the government.
The 25 bridges identified for reconstruction are either narrow or in weak condition. All are on the national highway network.
Work has been divided into three contract packages, the first of which includes eight bridges.
