The larger of the two arches has now been positioned for the North Shore Footbridge in Stockton, northern England. The arch was lifted into place by the UK's largest mobile crane, and sits alongside a smaller arch, which was positioned earlier this summer.
The bridge spans 180m and rises to 40m above the River Tees. It will provide a pedestrian and cycle link between Tees Valley Regeneration's North Shore development and both a business park and Durham University's Queen's Campus.
"This structure is unique in its design and appearance and continues the long tradition of innovative structures spanning the River Tees," said Stockton Borough Council leader Ken Lupton.
The sweeping double-arched design is by Spence Associates and Expedition Engineering. Contractor for the project is Balfour Beatty, working with subcontractors Cleveland Bridge and Dorman Long.
