Several people were injured by the collapse of a 43m-long steel girder during construction of an elevated section of the Taichung MRT Green Line.

The project has been commissioned for Department of Rapid Transit Systems (Dorts) by the Taichung city government. Dorts deputy commissioner Chang Tse-hsiung reported that preliminary investigations point to human error as the primary cause of the accident, which resulted in the steel girder’s tilting and crashing. The exact cause has yet to be identified.

The local authorities will work with the project's consultants and contractor to conduct a comprehensive review of construction plans and safety before resuming work.
