Four people died and 13 were injured in the accident. Ten motorcycles fell off the bridge when it collapsed.

Engineers from the Town & Country Planning Department are investigating whether the collapse of the bridge in Ayutthaya was a result of design failure or shoddy construction materials. So far, investigators believe the bridge was not over capacity at the time of the accident but that the structure had not been well-maintained.

Engineering Institute of Thailand secretary-general Thanet Wirasiri has inspected the site and said that he believed the main cause of the collapse was corroded cables, but that this was exacerbated by the local municipality's failure to fix the bridge when it showed sign of tilting.
