Croatia Roads intends to award the US$9.1 million contract to build a 1.5km bridge between the Dalmatian city of Split and its northern suburb Kaštela to China Bridge and Road Corporation, which built the 2.4km Pelješac Bridge in the south of Croatia.
Construction will not be completed before 2027, and the project includes access improvements to Split Ferry Port. It will reduce the journey between Split and Zagreb by 20km.
The design of the bridge has yet to be decided. The four other bidders are now allowed to appeal, but it is expected that the contract between Croatia Roads and China Bridge and Road Corporation will be signed after fifteen days.
