Queen Beatrix has opened what is claimed to be the world's longest wildlife bridge. The 800m-long, 150m-wide landscaped route crosses a road and railway to connect a forest near Hilversum with the Bussum moorland. It is intended to enlarge the habitat and provide safe passage for animals such as deer, foxes and hedgehogs. The "ecoduct" cost US$19 million and took four years to build.
