Niantic Bridge replacement is due for completion in May 2013 and construction of the East & West Harbor Railroad Bridge project resumed recently after a brief hiatus.
Replacement of the Miamicock Bridge over Pattaganset River in East Lyme is scheduled to be completed next month. The project included removal of the existing 100-year-old bridge and substructure, and construction of the new bridge on footings supported by piles driven to bedrock. Construction was completed on each track in phases while train service remained active on the adjacent track.
The US$125 million Niantic Bridge Replacement Project in East Lyme remains on pace for completion in May, 2013, with significant progress made this winter to replace the existing 103-year-old span. Tasks being prepared include construction of a new navigation channel bridge pier fender system and completion of the concrete river piers, bridge abutments and a precast concrete sea wall.
Work resumed last month on the East & West Harbor Railroad Bridge after a brief hiatus. Cianbro is the new contractor for the US$32 million bridge replacement project. The bridges will have increased vertical clearance underneath, which will improve access north of the railway for local boaters.
