China's 10.3km-long Chongming Bridge topped out yesterday, when the final concrete was placed in the second of the main towers for the focal suspension section.

The bridge over the Yangtze River will connect mainland Shanghai and its two largest islands as part of a US$1.66 billion project that also includes an 8.9km tunnel. Bridge construction by China Aviation Industrial Corporation II is expected to be completed next year, with the full project opening to traffic in 2010.
