The government in the Canadian province of British Columbia has reached an 'agreement-in-principle' for a public-private partnership to expand the Port Mann crossing. The scheme involves building a new cable-stayed bridge and widening a section of highway.

Connect BC Development Group had been selected in August to enter into negotiations with the government. The team includes the Macquarie Group, Transtoll, Peter Kiewit Sons and Flatiron Constructors Canada.

The province will provide about a third of the financing for the project. All costs will be recovered by electronic tolls. Final terms and conditions are expected to be settled at in early March and the project remains on schedule for a 2013 completion.
