Plans are under way to replace the foundations within the next three years as the existing ones are suffering from the effects of aggressive concrete corrosion caused by salt water exposure.

“While the bridge remains perfectly safe for use now, we want to ensure that we build new foundations sooner, rather than later to ensure long term access and safety for bridge users," said councillor Russell Green.

Arup has been engaged to design the technical aspects of the new substructure and local architectural firm Bark Design is working on the aesthetics of the project in consultation with the council.

A community information and consultation session will been held in early March to seek the community’s feedback on issues including the design and aesthetics of the bridge’s foundations.
