An 18-month closure of London's Albert Bridge begins today to enable Interserve Project Services to carry out a US$10.6 million strengthening and refurbishment project on behalf of the borough of Kensington & Chelsea.
The hybrid suspension bridge over the River Thames was built in about 1870 and has been modified to improve its load carrying capacity through works including the addition of a new central pier in 1973.
Hyder Consulting is the council's consultant for the work.
