The first tranche of projects has been announced in the Australian government's US$234 million bridges renewal programe.
The initial batch covers a total of 53 bridges across the country, with the largest number - 18 - being in Victoria, where US$10 million has been allocated.
“The bridges renewal programme is designed to bolster productivity of Australia's local bridges, to better serve communities and drive greater efficiency in road freight and traffic movement,” said deputy prime minister and minister for infrastructure and regional development Warren Truss.
