"This highly challenging foundation contract is the largest offshore project in the company's history,” said Bauer AG chairman Professor Thomas Bauer.

The bridge is divided into two segments: one on the Chinese side, the other on Hong Kong territory. Bauer Hong Kong will be carrying out roughly half of the foundation works over the first 9.4km through Hong Kong. Work is scheduled to start in January 2013, and last until mid-2014.

Most of Bauer’s work will take place offshore. It will be deploying four BG 40 drilling rigs. The foundation piles, in diameters of up to 2.5m, will have to be sunk into the sea bed down to depths of 90m working from several drilling platforms.
