The US$26.5 million pedestrian and bridge was designed by Santiago Calatrava. Graham Infrastructure was general contractor for the scheme and the key subcontractors were Augescon, GIG Fassaden and Big Eagle Services.

The 850t steel structure was positioned over the Bow River over several days in November 2011. Graham used hydraulics to push the bridge along a rail system across a temporary structure.

Celebrations were also held this month for another Calatrava-designed bridge, the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge in Dallas in the US state of Texas. The bridge has not yet opened to traffic but it is due to open this week.
