A hearing is being held today (5 August) to mark the receipt of final reports into problems such as issues with tie rods experienced in building the landmark bridge.

California's director of transportation Malcolm Dougherty has welcomed the senate's conclusion that the bridge is safe and agreed that greater transparency is needed in oversight of such projects and that there should be more sophisticated records procedures. However he disagreed with some sections of the findings.

California's Department of Transportation, Caltrans, has also published its own report on lessons learned in mega-project management.

The reports can be downloaded from the California Senate website (link opens in new tab).
