The National Capital Commission of Canada has granted federal land use and approved the schematic design for the Alexandra Bridge Replacement project.
The eel-inspired concept, named Motion, was approved in January last year (link opens in new tab). The design was one of three supplied by Arup Canada, with Knight Architects as lead bridge architects.

The project team is led by Public Services and Procurement Canada. The procurement process is ongoing.
The new build replaces the Royal Alexandra Interprovincial Bridge, a steel truss cantilever structure dating from 1900 that links Ottawa and Gatineau over the Ottawa River.
