The city of Toronto in Canada has retained Stantec to lead the replacement of two of its bridges in a contract worth US$10 million.

The two bridges on Scarlett Road and Jane Street serve Toronto’s most flood-prone neighbourhood, Rockcliffe-Smythe. Stantec has taken a lead role on other flood protection projects in the city.

The Jane Street work will see an 11m concrete arch culvert replaced with a 55m single span bridge. On Scarlett Road, a 15m bridge will be replaced by a higher 30m single-span bridge.

The bridges will both be widened to give room for raised cycle tracks.
