At one time it was the world’s longest suspension bridge outside the USA, and although it no longer holds that record, the Forth Road Bridge definitely has something to celebrate 60 years after its opening in September 1964.

Transport Scotland and road management firm BEAR are marking the significant occasion with a series of events, including an exhibition, ceremonies and trips in vintage vehicles.

BEAR is holding a ballot in which the public can obtain one of 300 places on free guided tours on 28 September that give access to parts of the bridge normally hidden from view. The ballot, which closes on 1 August, is free to enter (link opens in new tab).

BEAR is also running tower top trips, with 60 places available.
