A 22.5km tunnel and bridge crossing of China's Yangtze River opened this weekend, providing a link from the Pudong district of Shanghai to the island of Chongming.
The route features the 8.8km Chongming North Bridge, which is mostly on viaduct but includes a 730m cable-stayed main span over the central navigational channel.
The bridge was designed by a team of Cowi, Halcrow and Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design Institute.
The crossing provides the first fixed link to the island, which previously relied on 18 ferry routes.
