The US$3.1 billion New NY Bridge will cross the Hudson River at one of its widest points and will replace Tappan Zee Bridge.

Low-maintenance ‘100-year life’ concrete will be used for the new cable-stayed twin bridge, which is being built under a design-build contract by the Tappan Zee Constructors team, comprised of Fluor, American Bridge, Granite Construction Northeast and Traylor Bro. Engineering consultant for the scheme is HDR.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo announced this month that the federal government has approved a loan of up to US$1.6bn for the project. The low-interest, 35-year loan comes from the federal government's Transportation Infrastructure Finance & Innovation Act (TIFIA) programme and represents the largest award in the programme's history.
