PCL Constructors Westcoast has begun construction of the Johnson Street Bridge site in downtown Victoria.
The new US$92.8 million stucture will be one of the largest single-leaf bascule lift bridges in the world. It has been designed by Wilkinson Eyre and MMM Group.
The new rolling bascule bridge will include cycle lanes and a pedestrian pathway and will feature new plaza areas for the public to view the harbour. It will be built to withstand an 8.5 magnitude earthquake.
