The existing 87-year-old Padanaram Bridge in Dartmouth is prone to getting stuck.
The funding was announced by Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) highway administrator Jonathan Gulliver, Massachusetts lieutenant governor Karyn Polito and state representative Chris Markey.
MassDOT is expected to begin the hunt for a design team shortly.
