The Josef Umdasch Research Prize 2023 is calling for ideas for sustainable solutions across the building lifecycle. Entries must be submitted by 8 January 2023.

The winner will have the opportunity to implement the idea in cooperation with Umdasch Group Ventures.

"The Umdasch Group acts in a very future-oriented manner,” said Wolfgang Litzlbauer, chairman of the executive board of the Umdasch Group, which sponsors the prize. “Sustainability is one of the important pillars of our corporate strategy, which is why we have chosen this topic for the Josef Umdasch Research Prize this year, in order to gain new impulses and ideas.

Umdasch Group Ventures is seeking contributions aimed at achieving more sustainability across the building lifecycle. Eligible topics include  sustainable building materials and technologies, reduction of the CO2 footprint, renovation of buildings, recycling and the creation of social housing.

Chosen applicants will receive financial support of €5,000 (US$5,245) each for the detailed development of their ideas and will be invited to present their solution to a jury of experts. The pitch presentation and award ceremony will take place in March 2023 as part of the World Summit Awards. The winner will be given the opportunity to implement the idea with Umdasch Group Ventures.

Through the Josef Umdasch Research Prize, the Umdasch Group has been supporting achievements in research and development since 1990. The award is named after Josef Umdasch, the father of the current owners Hilde Umdasch and Alfred Umdasch, who established the prize.

This year’s award went to a young Israeli company Samson Logic, which deals with the management of building materials.
