Hardesty & Hanover of New York has signed New Jersey Transit’s US$7.7 million contract for conceptual and preliminary design and engineering services on the new Brielle rail bridge.
The single track Brielle Drawbridge between Brielle and Point Pleasant on the North Jersey Coast Line is now 113 years old and beyond its original service life. It has a Scherzer rolling-lift bascule span that carries about 40 trains each day.
The replacement will be dual track and have better resilience against flooding. New Jersey Transit anticipates that it will be complete towards the end of 2031.
