Crane Service has placed a series of 33m-long bridge beams in Texas using a single crane equipped with a heavy-lift attachment instead of a more conventional set-up of two cranes.
The project for Texas Department of Transportation required the hoisting and setting of 15 beams at the bridge site in Sterling City.
The beams were placed using Grove’s new GMK-6400 all-terrain crane, which was fitted with Grove’s heavy lift attachment, the Mega-Wing. Use of the attachment meant that the single crane was able to the handle the beams, which each weighed approximately 40 tonnes.
Road closures were kept down to a minimum by having only one crane at the project site.
