The choice of design for the pedestrian and cycle bridge follows community consultation that began last September.  Three options had been put forward, but the chosen bridge is to a different design.

“The community were clear in their desire for us to deliver bridge that is visually appealing and highlighted the importance of minimising disruption to the historic rowing course and offering benefits for all river users,” said minister for transport Gladys Berejiklian. “I’m confident that the design we are releasing today achieves these objectives.”

Early estimates suggest the bridge, designed by KI Studio, will cost around US$23m to build, subject to detailed design.
