Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also approved a plan for a flyover to link the 800ha International City development with residential developments. The two projects are worth a total of US$190 million.

Chairman and executive director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), Mattar Al Tayer, said that the new bridge to Bluewaters Island project will be built off the coast of Jumeirah Beach Residence and will have two lanes in each direction. The US$136m construction contract for the bridge will be awarded in the second quarter of this year. Features of Bluewaters Island include the world's tallest Ferris wheel.
