The double-decked road-rail truss bridge in Nanjing opened in 1968 and became a source of national pride. The Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge maintenance and renovation project includes reconstruction of the T-beam bridge deck and reinforcement work.

The bridge’s features are regarded by the city as an "immovable cultural relics". Repair crews will use latest techniques to reinforce the structure while seeking to avoid unnecessary destruction or interference with its design. The aim is to maximise retention of historical original parts.

Renovation work is being carried out by Donghua.
