The US$189m contract covers the design and construction of the bridge, which will be the longest of more than 100 on the upgraded stretch of the Pacific Highway between Woolgoolga and Ballina. The Pacific Highway connects Sydney and Brisbane and is one of the country’s busiest roads.
The structure will carry four lanes at a height of 30m above the Clarence River at Harwood.
The Pacific Highway is being expanded and upgraded to four lanes under a programme co-financed by the governments of Australia and New South Wales. The Clarence River Crossing is the second Pacific Highway project won by the consortium of Ferrovial and Acciona.
