Leonhardt, Andrä & Partner has announced the completion this week of the final section of a new bridge over the River Elbe at Niederwartha near Dresden.

The Elbe Bridge Niederwartha is a composite cable-stayed bridge with a 192m main span, a total length of 366m and a 77m-high A-shaped pylon. The landmark crossing will enhance an existing but underdeveloped transportation corridor west of the city.

Client for the scheme is the State of Saxony and the bridge is being built by a joint venture of Plauen Stahl Technologie and Alpine Deutschland. A feature on the bridge is published in the current issue of Bridge design & engineering (issue 51, second quarter 2008).
